About Kaneda and Akira

Akira is the 1988 anime film by Katsuhiro Otomo, set in a neon soaked Neo Tokyo after a disaster. Shotaro Kaneda is the leader of a biker gang who rides a famous red motorcycle with a long, low frame. His red jacket, covered with stickers, became one of the most copied outfits in anime history. The film’s animation and music still thrill new fans decades later. Its dark futuristic city, its bike races and its sudden bursts of action are why many fans consider it the film that opened the door to anime in the West.

Design Highlights

• Sticker collage: dozens of racing decals pack the front, back and sleeves.
• Neo Tokyo lettering: big letters across the shoulders place you in the city.
• Bright red base: the same color as Kaneda’s jacket and bike.
• Hockey cut: V neck, long sleeves and a relaxed fit.

Where to Wear It

Wear it to a motorcycle meet, a retro anime screening, a convention or a night out in a neon lit district. Black jeans and boots complete the biker look. The loud print also looks great in photos at night under neon lights.

It is a stylish gift for the cyberpunk fan who knows every frame of the film. Pick it for a birthday or a Christmas surprise. It also suits riders who like a bold layer under a leather jacket.
