About Buruma

Buruma are the gathered gym shorts that Japanese students used to wear for physical education in the late twentieth century. They show up in many anime and manga set in high school, usually in scenes about sports day, club practice and the nervous energy before a race. Today they are a familiar nostalgic detail and a popular piece of school life cosplay. If you have ever watched a relay race scene with a nervous heroine on the starting line, you already know the look.
