About Buruma and Gym Class Style

Buruma are the gym shorts that Japanese students wore for physical education, popular for decades and often seen in anime and manga set in school. They show up during sports festivals, club activities and relay races, and their color often shows which team or year a student belongs to. Red and navy are two of the most familiar shades. Anime fans often connect the color to the red team in a sports festival, cheering from the sidelines with a headband on.
